‘Christianity is the only religion that says that God became a human body and we are going to continue to promote embodiment as the way of knowing. God became flesh. (John 1:14)’ Richard Rohr
This taster day on embodied prayer and spirituality invites you to explore wordless, playful and contemplative practice using your whole being – body, mind and spirit to worship, pray and encounter God. The day will be facilitated by Soobie Whitfield, a dance practitioner, who has been journeying with this practice for over 40 years. She describes herself as a fidgety contemplative.
After a brief introduction and movement warm up, we shall be focussing on body prayer, posture, walking and mindful action. There will be opportunities throughout the day for silence, including the option for a partially silent lunch (lunch not provided, please bring a packed lunch), and for discussion/ sharing.
No previous experience or level of physical ability necessary, as we will be moving within our own capabilities, however, please inform the chaplain on booking of any physical conditions that we should be aware of. Please wear loose or stretchable, comfortable clothing. We will be outdoors for some sessions so bring suitable clothing for the weather conditions.
