Embodied Prayer for the Season of Advent

  • Whirlow Spirituality Centre Whirlow Grange Close Sheffield, England, S11 9SY United Kingdom (map)

‘The Word became flesh and lived among us.’ John 1

As we head towards the darker days of Winter, and on the eve of the start of Celtic Advent (40 days before Christmas), we will draw inspiration from the Celtic Christian tradition. Using embodied spirituality, stillness and nature we will explore the themes of gestation and incarnation.

Embodied prayer and spirituality invite you to explore wordless, playful and contemplative practice using your whole being – body, mind and spirit to worship, pray and encounter God. The day will be facilitated by Soobie Whitfield, who led the Embodied Spirituality Day here in July. She describes herself as a fidgety contemplative.

After a brief introduction, we shall be focussing on meditation, body prayer and, weather permitting, some time outdoors. There will be opportunities throughout the day for silence, including the option for a partially silent lunch, and for discussion/ sharing.

No previous experience or level of physical ability necessary, as we will be moving within our own capabilities, however, please inform the chaplain on booking of any physical conditions that we should be aware of. Please bring a packed lunch and wear loose or stretchable, comfortable clothing and bring suitable footwear for the weather conditions.
