‘Our spiritual life depends on God’s perpetual coming to us, far more than on our going to him.’
As we approach the Christmas season, many of us are familiar with the idea that God comes to us in Christ. As the well-known carol puts it – ‘O come to us, abide with us, our Lord, Emmanuel’. But what if we stopped to recognise that this isn’t isolated to Christmas but that ‘God’s Coming To Us’ is fundamental to who God is?
Using inspiration from the writing of Evelyn Underhill, we will consider how our spiritual life might be more dependent on his ‘perpetual coming to us’. In addition to three delivered reflections there will be periods of silence and space for creativity. The day will be bookended by morning and evening prayer with a short communion service at midday.
