The Desert Day is a time set apart to meditate on the Word, rest and let go in silence. It is suited to those who enjoy any form of silent prayer or wish to gently explore it.
Drawing on the practices of the desert Fathers and Mothers, the day will begin with a short talk on contemplative prayer - inspired by Ezekiel 36’s “heart of flesh”.
Participants will then gather for a group Lectio Divina, leading into a shared time of silent prayer and resting in God. There will be conversation, further silence and space to explore the theme and text individually and make use of the facilities at Whirlow.
Art materials will be available and there is opportunity for a one-to-one, if helpful.
The day will be led by Mel King, contact for Contemplative Outreach in North Yorkshire and the North East.
The day costs £25. Participants are invited to bring their own lunch (drinks and biscuits will be available) and will be sent a reminder email approx. one week before the event with any further formation and practical details.
