The second half of life presents us with an opportunity to either become who we really are and flourish, or close ourselves down in the face of the challenges ahead. This experiential course will invite participants to look at some of those challenges e.g.:- facing loss and change, and how it might be to engage with our mortality and death. Alongside this we will look at how we resource ourselves to live more fully in this most fruitful and potentially creative part of our lives.
This course is offered over two days, as a ‘taster’ of some of the interesting and exciting material that is emerging in this field. It is offered through a lens of Christian spirituality but people of other faiths, and of no explicit faith, are most welcome. There will be plenty of suggestions for further reading, reflection, and exploration.
‘Filling the Well’ is designed to be a safe place within which to explore how life is, and might become as we get older.
We will also have the opportunity to engage, with great care, with some of our thoughts and feelings around death and dying. Everyone will be invited to share only what they feel comfortable with, and most importantly, we will keep reminding you to be gentle with yourselves as we go along.
Whether we are retired, still in paid work, working voluntarily or any combination of these, for most of us life is busy and tends to be ‘overstuffed’ at times; so we explicitly set out to slow things down during the sessions and take things at a steady place. The course will be mainly experiential but we will offer you information and reflective exercises that you can use afterwards to take the exploration further if you wish to. We suggest that you might like to plan on keeping some time free between the two course days and think of using it as reflection space?
Facilitated by Teresa Dickens a retired nurse and health visitor, each workshop will begin at 11am , with arrivals and coffee from 10.30am. Drinks are provided but please bring your own lunch.
