Are You Listening?
In the rather strange exchange between Jesus and the religious leaders that is recounted in today’s reading from John’s gospel, we are asked to think about the elusive possibility of recognising a divine voice.

Read John’s gospel, Chapter 10 and Verses 22 to 30.
“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no-one can snatch them out of my hand.”
Eternal life does not seem here to be about signing up to specific formulae, doctrines, dogmas or rituals. Jesus suggests it is about hearing his voice.
We might do that in stillness, silence or in nature. Recognising his presence with us moment by moment, in every aspect of our lives. So, we listen and try to follow. We discover eternal life in his company!
In these troubled times, you might find great blessing walking the woodland paths, enjoying the trees coming into leaf, the wild flowers and bluebells bringing colour and the birdsong …. all speaking of new life and the beauty of God’s creation.
